Explanation of 3D Printing Technology:
3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), refers to various processes used to synthesize a three-dimensional object. In 3D printing, successive layers of material are formed under computer control to create an object.
3D Printing, also called Additive Manufacturing, is the process of building a three-dimensional object by laying down successive layers of material. A 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) model of the object is converted into a series of cross sectional slices that are sent to the 3D printer. The process allows manufacturers to speed up development cycles, make quick adjustments to molds and prototypes, and create highly complex and customizable parts. It is used in a wide array of applications, including rapid prototyping, jewelry casting, custom medical implant production, and manufacturing of complex automotive and aerospace components.
A vat (build tray) is filled with a liquid photopolymer (resin). The platform is moved downward in the vat and a thin film of liquid (having a height between 10 – 100 microns) is created between the platform and vat. Now laser traces the path of the layer and wherever the laser hits the surface of the liquid it gets solidified. The platform is raised up and the same process is repeated and the whole object is created in this bottom up fashion. Laser dot is moved using high speed galvanometer.DLP same as SLA (laser) only difference is that instead of galvanometer a DLP led Projector is used. The whole layer is projected on the liquid vat in UV light.
